Habesha Cafe
Ethiopian Authentic Food and Coffee House
The Story:
In the heart of Leuven, Belgium, nestled between cobblestone streets and historic buildings, a new culinary gem emerged in early 2024. This was not just any restaurant; it was a beacon of Ethiopian culture and cuisine, brought to life by a family with a unique blend of Ethiopian heritage and Belgian upbringing.
We, the founders of Habesha Cafe restaurant, were born in Ethiopia but raised in Belgium. Our childhood was filled with the warmth of our mother's Ethiopian cooking and the vibrant coffee ceremonies providing a constant connection to our roots. Our mother’s kitchen was a sanctuary of aromatic spices, sizzling injera, and the comforting sounds of coffee beans being roasted. It was here that our love for Ethiopian cuisine started.

As we grew older, our appreciation for our heritage deepened. We saw how our mother’s cooking brought joy and connection to our family, and we began to dream of sharing this joy with different communities in Belgium. Our culinary journey was not just about food; it was about bringing a piece of Ethiopia to Belgium, creating a space where people could experience the richness of our culture through flavors, traditions, and stories.
To our delight, the Leuven community embraced our restaurant with open arms. People were curious, eager to try something new and to learn about our culture. Our mother’s recipes, passed down through generations, became a hit. The traditional coffee ceremonies we hosted became a favorite, offering a moment of tranquility and cultural immersion.
